But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. – Jeremiah 1:7-8
Dutchtown Baptist’s Student Ministry is committing to partnering with parents, to be involved in the work God is doing in the lives of our students. During the brief time we have them in our ministry we would like for them to experience God through these three actions.
Know (Verb) – develop a relationship with Jesus Christ through meeting and spending time with Him.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.”
We will provide our students tools, methods, time, and reasons to experience God. Through meeting, and spending time with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, they can become familiar and friendly with Jesus. This will enable our students to trust, and rely on God in all matters of life.
Own (Adjective & pronoun) – You belong and relate to God, and your faith is your own.
“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.”
Mine, Mine, Mine! We have all heard these words out of ours student’s mouths since they learned to speak. We have also heard this repeated throughout the bible. God created us, we are His, and He is ours. He desires a personal relationship, one on one. Together we will reinforce this through our activities and studies, helping our students to realize this personal relationship is theirs, and theirs alone.
Engage (Verb) participate in the world by being involved in the world for Christ.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”
Our light, the Truth in the Grace provided by Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, is a light to our dark world. A light we cannot hide. A light we should not even try to hide. Beyond (but still including) mission trips, summer camps, and service projects, we need to light up the world in every aspect of our lives. We will help guide our students to carry their light past our youth group, our church and into the world. Shining their light in every interaction; in every trip to the grocery store, to each of their classes, and even to the people serving their meals.
